My best friend!! Andie Robinson has been one of my best friends for a very long time! We grew up in Ohio together with Brook. Oh man we were inseparable back then! Miss spending time with you girls! Love you!

I had the great opportunity to be a roommate while she was dating Trevor, her husband. Then they gave me the honor to decorate for their wedding. I loved every minute of it! The colors that they picked worked so well together. I do know that the main reason that Andie had to have blue flowers was because of Trevor's slight obsession with BYU! Good times. Please enjoy the pictures!

This is an aerial view of what the table centerpieces looked like. Having 3 different sized vases has been one of the latest trends. It is more pleasing to the eye to have a variety of sizes. Brings your eye all around the table. Then we just floated orange glad blossoms throughout.

I love outdoor weddings!! Aren't they fantastic? And what a beautiful night it was!

This was an arrangement I made last minute with some of the flowers that I had left over after all of the designs were done. There were 2 and they framed the front porch where everyone entered.

These are their wedding cakes. They are made out of cream puffs! And built into a very tall tower. The bride and groom do not take anything home, the guests eat everything.
This week I am working for Christelle Rousselet at 'Ca Sent Beau' in Dijon, France

The bride asked for us to decorate a backdrop and some drapery above too.

She had a fairly simple arrangement for her buffet and for her centerpieces.

I loved the headtable with the freshcut ivy and david austin roses mixed throughout the ivy.

The chandelier was made by Christelle using paper-mache. Perfect addition to the room with the suspended roses!
Another European tradition to make a beautiful arrangement on the car.
This is a picture of one of the sweet little flower girls! I loved the way it turned out!

Growing vertically out of bark, that's an idea.
These look just like a star!
Touching this one felt like a very hard plastic bowl. Very interesting experience.

So many more selections of beads and sands!
Check out the variety of colored wire and the sizes, flat and round.
Even the bouillon wire, lots more to choose from than I normally have access to.
The design pins that they have there are also massive. I love them!
Isn't that interesting...a corsage badge for gluing your corsage flowers.
They even sold jewelry that was ready to adorn with flowers!
This is something that is becoming popular out there, the meshed/woven ribbon. Lots of fun new things to be done with that!

Wedding Bouquet

In Europe one of the techniques is to wire every single individual flower before they put it in the bouquet. Kind of crazy! So we practiced that technique and it ended up really cute!

What do you think of the wrap? I did it with a aubergine rope, tapering down to a point and finishing it off with a pearl pin.

Floral design in Europe!!

In just a few days I will be half way across the world studying floral design at 7 different flower shops! I leave for a 2 month long trip to travel all around Europe on May 2nd, 2011! I have been connected with a wonderful lady who lives in Brussels and has coordinated the whole thing for me to study with the top floral designers out there. We will spend a week in each city/country!

Starting in Brussels then to Lyon, France for 2 weeks, afterwards to Paris, London, then Torquay, England, back to Paris and around France, last stop back in Brussels!
I can hardly believe it! It seems to be a dream to me! I have been trying to learn french but it's not coming super easy. Lol! So we will see how everything goes.So I'm super excited! I'm just going with the flow of life wherever it takes me. It's tons of fun! I really do love my life! I will do my best to blog once a week so that you can all see how it's going! So stay tuned!! Spread the word, you will get to see some new trends coming from Europe! I can't wait to share my experience with you!!

This lovely flower was named after Charles Bouvard, the personal physician to Louis XIII, and the superintendent of the Royal Gardens in Paris. My personal favorite is the pink shade of Bouvardia. But I do love the way this bouquet was made.

I satinized her bouquet with a silver/gray and ballet up with a turquoise

I love the variety of her flowers. In this bouquet you can find: white mini gerbs, cream roses, white dendro orchids, hypericum berries, and star of bethlehem (which was also used for the groom's bout). Collared with seeded eucalyptus and woven with beargrass and beads overhead. Beautiful combination!

Isn't this color pallet almost perfect! I used Hydrengea, lavender roses, white mini calas, belladonna delphinium and purple lizianthus. Monochromatic themed weddings is a great idea! Many have found that it sure makes for a cute wedding picture with all of your bridesmaids in different shades of purple dresses. (Or whatever your color might be) Think about it...

Cowboy up!

Originally the wedding was planned to be designed on a completely different pathway. But the bride always gets what she wants! ;) So here we are with a cowboy wedding. And what better flowers to do it with than sunflowers! (my favorite flower) Simple mason jars with the bandanna against the green table cloth was a perfect accent.

I love her bouquet very simple, yet colorful and very affordable for a bridal bouquet! Such a cute couple. Congrats!! Love you both!

I am so far behind in all of my posts! I'm so sorry! A year ago last December Alex, my younger brother, married the lovely Erin! I had the chance to do her flowers!

Aren't they cute!!

For her bouquet I used: White mini calla lilies, bells of ireland, hypericum berries, and green cabbage roses.
Check out the bouts! Just a couple hypericum berries and 2 angular wires designed in a fun modern way.

As her wedding planner I was able to help her in-vision her cake design through a sketch, I say it turned out great!

I had the chance to do a great underwater arrangement that was a great focal piece to the buffet table.

This bride chose footed ming bowls for her centerpieces. And floating inside is my favorite flower, the sunflower! The bear grass swirled around underneath the water gives the illusion of motion and is symbolic of an eternal love!

Here is the lovely brides bouquet. Honestly I was skeptical of these colors being put together but I think it is growing on me. Besides that was exactly what the bride wanted. She loved it!

Grace Deleon is one of my favorite people I know! She has a spunk about life that is contagious. Grace and I first met my first day in Guatemala, Quezaltenango on my 18 month LDS mission. So a short time after being home she found her sweetheart Kevin and they decided to get married in the Salt Lake city LDS temple. It was my pleasure designing her wedding I hope that you enjoy the pictures!

Grace was very trusting in my design skills. She sat with me and told me her favorite flowers, but basically said that she trusted my ability to design and to do whatever I thought looked good. The bouquet has green kermit's, Red tulips, Green parrot tulips, Green cymbiduim orchids with a beautiful red throat, red freedom roses, Red gerbera daisies. I also did a small netting effect on top of all the flowers with green and red boullion wire. Super cute!

The groom's boutonnière was made with a green cymbiduim orchid that had a red throat, small red ribbon loop and wrapped down the stem with red bouillon wire.

I love the bright colors that were picked for this reception! It was very happy! Part of my job description is to also order and set up floating Chinese lanterns. It is a great way to add a touch of color to your wedding. It adds so much dimension to your room. And your guests will love the color!

For her centerpeices we filled the vase with the sherbet colored fruit slices. It was super cute!

Composite Lily bouquet

Does it look like I just bought this flower? Then I did my job right! I made this bouquet a few months ago. We had some extra lilies at work and so I was just messing around. The techinque here is called a composite flower. I have made a composite rose before and they are not my favorite. I felt like all of the labor that I put into it wasn't worth it. But creating a composite lily after all of the work I think it was worth it. I started with one lily in the center as you can see and then took apart each lily after that and wiring it then placing it together. It turned out great!

And for those of you who have heard about how heavy a real flower bouquet is and don't want to carry that weight around your whole wedding day this would be a great option for you! It was literally weightless!

Krystal was one of my favorite brides to work with. So was so sweet and very grateful for everything! Turns out that she also went to BYU-Idaho! Yay! For her buffet peice I decided to add more depth inside the vase so I added loops of bear grass under tha water. I thought it added a great affect. I loved the colors in her bouquet. It was beautiful. I liked it so much that before I wrapped it to give it to her I took some cool pictures with the stems just left all-natural! This is the look that you get when you use a technique called the 'Dutch spiral'. This was taught to me at BYU-Idaho where I received my B.A. degree in Horticulture emphasis in floral design. Doesn't it look cool?!

This was a huge wedding! They booked out the whole building and went all out! It was a lot of work but everything turned out beautiful!

The cake turned out so cute!

They had a huge buffet dinner that was served to all 170 guests. King crab, steak, prime rib, shrimp. They had everything you could imagine! And all of the flowers to go with it!

The Color Blue was their photographer. They did a great job and I love their style.

Chelsea's bouquet was fun to do! Only red and white Calla lilies! Very expensive and heavy!

Natalie is our cake decorator. She does an amazing job here at the Northampton House! Then came her turn to have her wedding. Everything turned out beautiful as she focused on a vintage theme. Her colors were green and ivory shades. The pearl beading hanging on the centerpeices was a perfect touch. On the head table your eye is brought down as the metal shimmers through.

This bouquet must fall under one of my very favorites! White akito roses, white lizianthus, green button mums, green hypericum berries, brown fern curls, green hydrengea, diamond accents and a little ruscus around the edges. Perfect texture!

Of course her cake was very detailed. It is still on display in our showcase upstairs (she made it out of styrophome)

Spectacular!

Brittany Dow was a great bride to work with. Her parents were from Georgia and wanted something that was like a dream. Through many hours on the phone and a couple plane tickets out here to Utah we were able to make it just like they imagined. Enjoy!

For the centerpeices she wanted to have varing sizes. So half of the tables had a tall glass vase with a bundle of flowers on top and then on the other half of the tables do a shorter arrangement.

She did a wreath of flowers underneath her cake! In the background you can see the grooms cake. Really cute!It was the Mother of the bride that really wanted to have fresh flower bundles going down the staircase with champane tool draping. It added a very elegant feeling to the whole room.They also had a separate table for the children. Cute touch!

Bumblebee wedding?

This Bride was worried out of her mind that this wedding would look like a bumble bee wedding. She used a lot of yellow and then black with the tuxes and the bridesmaids dresses. LOL! I think it turned out cute. What do you think?

I do love the flowers that she picked. Yellow gerbs, yellow lilies and white roses. Simple enough but had a lot of texture.

I couldn't help but throw this picture in, because it looks like the groom is sticking his face into the chocolate fountain. (He really isn't though)

Adding fruit to your wedding makes a cute touch. That was this brides idea. The colors were perfect together. And the FLOATING CHINESE LANTERNS have become a very popular touch lately.
If you look closely you can see there are even limes in the clear glass riser underneath the cake. The green cymbidium orchids added a perfect touch on each layer to bring the green all the way up.And of course the brides bouquet. White roses, light blue belladonna dephinuim, green cybidium orchids and the brown fern curls added the texture that was needed. Very cute!

Fairy Tale Wedding

Zach and Kari had a fairy tale wedding come true in March.

The centerpeices were just a ming bowl with a 3" floating candle and 2 stems of dendrobium orchids curved around the inside of the vase submerdged in the water.

We made 2 huge "trees" out of curly willow that were filled with white orchid blooms and an aray of colorful butterflies. The guests felt as though they were walking into a wonderland.

She had a gorgeous bouquet full of lavender roses that were absolutely stunning!

Pink and Spectacular!

We had the chance to do something really spectacular with one of our most recent weddings. It was all about being big, showy, and pink! Here are some pictures of what we did. We have a great crew here at Northampton House. It was a really great experiance to participate and over see all of these designs.

Looking down from the Bride's Room in the Courtyard every table had one of these huge arrangements on it.

This arrangement was for the head table.

Instead of doing a typical wedding cake they chose to have a cupcake stand and then a cute topper on the top layer with pink roses inbetween the cupcakes.

The whole wedding was beautiful!

Perfectly Pink

Here is one of my favorite bouquets that I made since I have started at Northampton House. The bouquet is made out of two different shades of pink roses with white cymbidiums with a pink center, green berries, and bright pink boronia with israeli ruscus around the edge. So cute!

So...the new thing now is to "bling" the first letter of your last name on your cake as a cute topper. This is one of the cakes that we did at Northampton House. I love the little accent of the red roses. So cute!

My dream job!

Ok, So I know that it has taken me forever to post this, I apoligize. I was hired at Northampton House as the Floral and Wedding consultant. I started in the middle of Febuary. They trained me first as the florist and now I am done training as one of the 3 Wedding Consultants. I hope that you all take some time to check out the website. We have a blog where we post each of our events. There you can see my work. I will try to post some of my pictures here too.

Just to explain a little bit about what I do. I am the only Floral Consultant for all of Northampton House. We rotate around about 60 brides at one time here. I do the floral consulting and flower arranging for all of the brides. I have one assistant that helps me arrange on the weekends. As one of the Wedding Consultants I have give tours and help each of our clients to book for their event and then work out all of the details and run their event. So it has been kind of crazy getting used to a new job, but I really love it!

Tournament of Roses

We won the President's award "Most Effective Use and Presentation of Flowers"

I was given a chance to do something one might only do once in a lifetime. Part of Brigham Young University - Idaho was asked to design for the Tournament of Roses in Pasadena, as part of the Rose Bowl. We worked on the Sesame street parade, sponsored by NAMM - National Association of Music Merchants.

We were able to work mostly with tropicals, but you can see that we mixed a lot of all the flowers. When we arrived on Monday most of the seeds and other flower material was already glued on so we got right to work.

We were given the flowers and said "Go to work, good luck!". It was a little intimidating at first but we gained confidence as we continued. You have to work on the float as a whole, b/c everything has to flow together. So you are not just doing one design at a time you are doing 20 or more. And they all have to be in your head at once. Dayrol was our mentor and was always there to help out.

There were also times that we had to design backwards. There was really no way that we could reach them at the front angle. So that was a challenge in itself. I learned a lot about team work.

All in all, it was a dream for me! I absolutely loved the experience! There is no replacing all of the things I have learned and th people that I have met/bonded with. I wouldn't trade it for the world!

As the manager for the Flower Shop on campus I have had the chance to design and assist in the designs of many of the devotional arrangements that were placed infront of the stand. It has been a great experience for me. Here are a couple examples of those designs.

I really like the colors in this design, yellow and blue with a touch of pink. I also love the striking lines that are felt with the diagonal shape.

Ever since my internship I have loved to design with tropicals and here you can see I got the chance to do it again!

Portland Rose Parade 2008

Portland Rose Parade

As a senior at BYU-Idaho I was given an opportunity to design for the rose parade in Portland Oregon. We volunteered with the company Studio Concepts. As you can see from the next picture everything that was on the float had to be all natural material. So many things were used such as rice, barley, coconut. Some of which needed to be dyed so as to get the desired color.

I loved it! It was one of the best experiances that I have ever had! I don't think that I have ever seen that many flowers in one room in my life. They were saying that if you were to send a dozen roses to your Mother everyday for 40 years, that was how many flowers that we used! As a team we worked on over 6 floats together. Below you will see a lay out of the designs that I participated in.

This design was a lot of fun, as you can see it used a lot of flowers, glads, lilies, roses ect. This was the very first design that we made. So it took us a few minuites to get going but then it turned out great! We won best placement of roses in the competition!

This was the opening float! It was a lot fo fun to do more of a phoneix style arrangement. We did four of this size on that float and then a couple other hanging arrangements on either side of the logo.

"Dressed like a King" was the theme for this float. So we designed with a crown of a king in mind. This is a picture of me and a couple of the girls that I worked with. You can really see how huge the designs were behind us.

These designs were a lot of fun. This float was Vauna's float, the previous coordinator for all of Studio Concepts. There were to be 3 different couples on this float that were renewing their vows. Yes with a preist and all. It was really special.

This design was probably my favorite! It was a huge teady bear that was dressed like a clown. So the flowers that we were given were meant to look playful and clown-like in their presentation. I think we did a pretty good job!

These designs were from the 'Native - American' float. So they are more free and wild-life, rather than something you might see in a flower shop.

On this float, the designs were started by Dayrol and we were asked to finish them. It was more of a jungle themed float.

This experience stretched me like I have never been stretched before. We were not hardly given any intructions, they gave us flowers and we had to design. I wouldn't trade it for the world. It was a blast!

Here is a picture of the family, me and Lara Bishop worked together on the flowers for everyone except the bride and groom which was made by Felicia Carpenter, the bride herself.

This is a close up of the arrangement that I did.

These were the designs for the buffet table, not what Felicia had orginally planned but I think it turned out great!

This is the throw bouquet, we decided to put it there as part of the sign in table

This is just one of the centerpeices, if I remember right we made 12.

The cake was made by Felicia's friend, but we just added a sweet touch of the 3 tulips with the ribbon that drapes down the left side of the cake. Very simple yet elegant.

I have the great fortune of having two of my good friends be married to each other! I love it! Sad enough I cannot say that I hooked them up. Crystal and I met in Summer 2005 and became instant friends and Denny was my Zone leader in the Guatemala Quezaltenango Mission. They are a perfect match for each other. They asked me to do their wedding flowers and I gladly accepted.
The wedding line was huge! There were 7 Bridesmaids and a lot of groomsmen! With the help of a friend, Felicia Terry, who is also studing Floral Design we were able to finish everything in time. Their colors were red, blue, purple and white. So we used white calla lilies, blue hydrangea, purple wax flower, and red roses. The ivy was a perfect touch for her cascading bouquet. Then the Bridesmaids bouquets were small hand ties with a little bit of everything.

I also was asked to make 2 little tiaras for Crystal's sweet neices as her flower girls. I used mini white carnations and ivy. Twisting some decorative wire around and weaving blue and purple ribbon around, and it turned out great!

Grandpa Hafen

Grandpa Hafen's Funeral

In January there was an unexpected accident. My Grandpa fell down the stairs at home and was rushed to the hospital. A few days later he passed away, January 19th, 2008. I was asked by my Grandma Hafen to do the funeral flowers for him. Grandpa's favorite flower was the Red Rose. That was the only flower that he wanted on his grave. So we gave him his wish and used 5-6 Dozen roses for his funeral spray. Although I miss him terribly, I feel very honored to have been given the opportunity to make his last bouquet. I love you Grandpa!

Orange and Blue Wedding

Working as the Teachers Assistant at the Flower shop at BYU-Idaho I have been given many opportunities to design and execute some weddings. One of which you can see here.

Leading a design crew of 3 other girls we completed this wedding in no time. They had 12 of these same center peices that you see to the left. With a stem of delphinium, one orange rose and a piece of bear grass creating a great accent off to the right. The vases that we used were quite small, so that arrangement worked out perfectly. Plus they are great centerpeices because they are tall and skinny enough that you can still have a conversation with the other guest sitting across the table.

To the left you will see all of the corsages and boutoneers that we made. We used orange spray roses, and to make the corsages even more special we added hypericum berries to them. We all know how important our mothers and grandmothers are to us. It added the perfect touch.

Then last but certainly not least I was able to do the Brides bouquet. It was more of the traditional cascade. I love how the white lilies just make the orange and blue pop. And I think that the greens were a great way to help emphasis the cascading effect. I had a lot of fun doing this wedding.

I had the privlidge of doing the wedding of a good friend from High school. Grant and I were in the same singles ward when he met Erin. I had the privlidge of doing their wedding. It was great working with both of them. I will add more of their pictures as I get them.

This was the first wedding that I have done with all silk flowers. I had a blast! Danielle and I went to the store together and picked out all the flowers and colors that she wanted. She wanted a spring feeling and the popular hand-tied bouquet that most brides enjoy. I was then able to arrange them a couple months before her wedding. This was important to her and I because I was starting up at school at Brigham Young University Idaho in September. She really wanted me to be the one to do her flowers. So it worked out perfectly. One of the many advantages of choosing to do silk flowers for your wedding. Gratefully I was still able to come down for their sealing in the Timpanogos Temple in Utah. As you can see it was a beautiful day, and everything turned out great!
